With today’s litigious minded consumers, you can not afford to be non compliant with local, State and Federal fire and safety codes. Ignorance in no longer an excuse against being sued.
NFPA-701 is the governing regulation fire code. Even if your local code inforcement officer or insurance company does not mention these to you, does not mean you are not liable for educating yourself on them. If you have a fire and your drapes are not “FR”, you will find out the hard way when your insurance company denies your claim and you are slapped with a law suit!
Codes regulate many parts of being a Hotel, Motel or Inn Owner. If you are B&B operator, you are NOT Exempt from these laws. These are just a few of the important codes you need to be aware of that govern ALL hospitality guess rooms of all types.
- All vertical fabrics (for drapery or wall covering) MUST meet NFPA- 701
- Bedspeads are not mandated at this time to be NFPA-701, but they soon shall be. If your B&B does not have sprinklers, you would be well served by purchasing fire proof bedding. It could lower your insurance cost and give your guest and you peace of mind knowing you have protected yourself and them as best as possible.
- Carpet padding can no longer be your standard foam product. The only products that meet NFPA-701 are the Synthetic Fiber pad and the 1/4’’ double stick pad. The Design Center uses only these products for installation, and we inventory them as well. These product cost more, but the cost are small compared to legal fees!
